Company Growth
After finding a good product market fit, how do you grow a company? Here we are going to discuss team member roles, user base, and product management. We’d like to avoid VC, so we are not going to talk about that.
After finding product market fit, you want to get the product to market, the entire market. You want to differentiate yourself by getting the dominant market share. The next step is getting to the next product. Products become obsolete quickly. You want to build products that serve more of the market. Also consider that you may have a good product, but how good is your distribution channel? Focus on building a product and also on product distribution. Build a customer base. The large customer base becomes a major asset for the company moving forward. New products can be cross sold to these customers.
Next, let’s talk about the company team. A CEO sets the overall direction and strategy of the company. He or she is responsible for hiring, raising capital, delegating tasks, auditing calendars, and getting a mentor. Some of the things a CEO should have on their calendar include sales, product meetings, press opportunities, high impact events, and regular one on ones with their team. They should have a daily schedule, document everything and have high level operating principles that everyone is steering toward. The CEO should document plans and have a list of steps to follow, take meeting notes, set goals quarterly or biannually, and have a 3–5 year plan. It’s important for the CEO to have a collaborative management style and work with the board.
